MIT snaps ties with Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corp

Elite U.S. university MIT has snapped ties with embattled Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corp over investigations by U.S. authorities that the Chinese firms violated U.S. sanctions. It is also ramping up its screening process.

In a strategic and significant development, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) stated it has snapped its collaborations with Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corp over U.S. federal investigations of the Chinese technology companies’ alleged violations of sanctions.

“MIT is not accepting new engagements or renewing existing ones with Huawei and ZTE or their respective subsidiaries due to federal investigations regarding violations of sanction restrictions”,said Maria Zuber, MIT’s vice president for research, in a statement.
