According to a senior administration official who spoke on the condition of anonymity, regardless of how China’s ByteDance positions the divestment of its short video sharing app TikTok, U.S. President Donald Trump does not want it to have a controlling stake in TikTok, since it will place Americans’ personal information at risk.
Despite China’s bravado talks of allowing TikTok to be banned in the United States, after all talk is cheap, actions taken by Beijing clearly indicates it is very much interested in keeping, at least a toe hold, in the U.S.
ByteDance is racing to clinch an agreement with the White House in order to stave off a U.S. ban on its short video app TikTok.
