Airbnb Inc announced on Tuesday that it will make its ban on parties in houses listed on its site permanent, citing a significant decrease in reports of unauthorised gatherings since the ban was implemented in August 2020.
Since instituting the strategy, the corporation has reported a 44 percent year-over-year decrease in the rate of party reports.
This follows the San Francisco-based company’s introduction and extension of a party ban in order to stem the spread of COVID-19 infections. Now, as the summer travel season approaches, the firm wants to make the prohibition permanent.
“This is an issue where I don’t know if I’d say there’s a finish line,” said Ben Breit, a spokesperson for the company, adding that Airbnb will keep working to address the issue.
The firm also stated that it will lift its 16-person cap, allowing larger homes advertised on the marketplace to be fully booked.
Airbnb began enforcing significantly harsher rules in 2019, beginning with a global prohibition on “party houses” or rentals that cause persistent local annoyance.
Airbnb’s policies have also been revised in light of the pandemic, deleting both the “event friendly” search filter and the “parties and events allowed” housing rules. more info
According to the firm, more than 6,600 visitors and several hosts were suspended in 2021 for attempting to breach the party restriction.
In May 2022, the corporation announced revenue that was 70% higher than the previous year, totaling $1.5 billion in the first quarter of 2022.
The business also forecasted sales for the second quarter of the year to be higher than market expectations, with predictions ranging from $2.03 billion to $2.13 billion.
