In a statement NASA said, it had signed an agreement with SpaceX aimed at avoiding collisions between their respective satellites.
The agreement will enhance data sharing between NASA and SpaceX’s Starlink, a space internet venture, to ensure both parties are fully aware of the exact location of spacecraft and debris in orbit.
“With commercial companies launching more and more satellites, it’s critical we increase communications, exchange data, and establish best practices to ensure we all maintain a safe space environment,” said NASA’s acting Administrator Steve Jurczyk while adding, SpaceX has agreed that its Starlink satellites would autonomously or manually maneuver to ensure that NASA satellites can operate uninterrupted.
