In a response to a tweet, Tesla Inc’s CEO Elon Musk suggested that the carmaker is likely to foray into the Indian car market next year.
Maharastra, India’s richest state, had invited the U.S. electric carmaker to invest in the country. In a tweet on Thursday, the state’s tourism and environment minister Aaditya Thackeray said, he along with with industries minister Subhash Desai had held a video conference with Tesla executives earlier in the day to invite them to the state.
In a reply to a post which showed a photograph of a T-Shirt which read “India wants Tesla”, Musk had tweeted “Next year for sure”.
The U.S. electric carmaker’s entry into Asia’s third biggest economy could come at a time when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is increasingly focusing to promote the usage of electric vehicles.
