In a statement Alphabet Inc’s Google said, it has closed down its “Isolated Region” cloud platform project and does not plan on offering its cloud platform services in that country.
On Wednesday, Bloomberg News had reported citing two employees, that Google had shelved the project in China as well as in other politically sensitive countries in May. The move has been ascribed partly due to the coronavirus which emerged from Wuhan, China and due to rising geopolitical tensions.
Google however denied the project’s shutdown to either of these two reasons saying it has not offered cloud platform services in China.
“Isolated Region” was just one of the paths explored by the company to address requirements related to adoption of cloud technology, said Google’s spokesperson.
With “Isolated Region” Google aimed to provide cloud services to customers and regulatory bodies around the globe.
