On Wednesday, Polestar, an electric vehicle maker owned by China’s Geely stated, it plans on opening 20 showrooms in the mainland, as it prepares for deliveries of its Polestar 2 electric sedan.
Polestar aims to compete with Tesla Inc’s Model 3.
Currently, Polestar has just 1 showroom in Beijing. It plans to have 20 of them in 17 Chinese cities, said the Gothenburg, Sweden-based company which is owned by Geely, in a statement. It manufactures cars in the Chinese city of Taizhou.
The number of showrooms is becoming an important metric in the Chinese electric vehicle market.
Polestar also plans on exporting the Polestar 2 sedans to the United States and Europe.
The bulk of its showrooms will be in shopping malls.
