Following a “a federal product exclusion” from the United States government for some of the components and equipment of its next generation of Mac Pro desktop computers, US tech giant Apple Inc has announced that this computer would be manufactured in the US – at a plant Austin, Texas state of the country.
Despite the exclusion for components form thus government, the company however said that compared to the previous generations of Apple Mac Pro, this new Mac Pro product will have more of American made components.
Apple said that spare parts and the technological support for the manufacturing of the new model of its desktop computers would be provided by manufacturers and suppliers from more than eight US states.
Most of the products of Apple are assembled and manufactured in China and some other countries outside of the US and the only notable Apple computer that will be assembled and produced in an American plant will by the new Mac Pro.
The trade war between the US and China could put Apple face to face with higher tariffs for its products, including for its flagship product the iPhone, following a decision by the US president Donald Trump in July this year stating that his administration would not offer any concessions or exclusion from the tariffs for the components that are imported by the company for manufacturing of products.
“Apple will not be given Tariff waiver, or relief, for Mac Pro parts that are made in China. Make them in the USA, no Tariffs!” Trump tweeted on July 26.
However, Apple confirmed on Monday it has been given an exemption from tariffs on some product components. “The U.S. manufacturing of Mac Pro is made possible following a federal product exclusion Apple is receiving for certain necessary components,” said the U.S. tech giant.
“The Mac Pro is Apple’s most powerful computer ever and we’re proud to be building it in Austin,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “We thank the administration for their support enabling this opportunity.”
Since Apple products are made with parts from 36 states in the country, which results in the generation of more than 45,000 jobs in the US by Apple, Cook said.
“Last year alone, the company spent over 60 billion dollars with more than 9,000 domestic suppliers across the country,” Apple said.
The production facility in Texas, US, where the company has decided to manufacture the new Mac Pro, used to earlier assemble the previous version of the product since 2013. Apple had unveiled the new Mac Pro at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June this year.
