‘Profit From Revenge Porn’ Being Made By Owner Of Pornhub

“Revenge porn” has become one of the most profit making business sections for the owners of porn streaming site Pornhub, claiedm a news report from the BBC, which also added that the site also is failing to remove such videos once even after they are objected to and reported.

The report quoted one woman, “Sophie” saying that she felt “violated” after a video that contained her images and was uploaded by her former partner was made public on the site and was viewed by hundreds of thousands of users.

The owner of Pornhub – MindGeek, was able to make greater advertising revenues due to such content, said campaign group #NotYourPorn.

It “strongly condemns” revenge porn, said Pornhub. The website added that it followed the “the most progressive anti-revenge-porn policy in the industry”.

The company also said that it did not find “any record of any email” that had been sent by Sophie wherein she had asked the website to take down the video that contained her. The company was however in touch with her currently and “looking forward to solving this issue together”.

According to Sophie – which is not the real name of the woman, told BBC that about 18 months ago, she had been on a day out with her family and she had checked her phone to find missed calls and messages.

Her sister’s partner had found videos of her on Pornhub – the world’s largest porn website. One of her videos was in a top 10 chart and had had hundreds of thousands of views.

“I felt shocked, embarrassed and violated,” she said.

Sophie and her ex-partner had earlier made six videos together. And about four years ago they had broken up and no consent from Sophie was taken before putting up the videos on the website.

She said that she had called him to protest as soon as she found out he had done so. The videos were taken down within a week, she said.

However, an unknown individual had created about 100 video clips using those six videos which were then uploaded to Pornhub again.

But she said that the website was “not very helpful” in its response when she reported this to the site. Sophie was asked to get in touch with another company that handled requests sent to Pornmhub to take down videos. However the second company was unresponsive as well.

She also went to the police. To date, no-one has been charged.

The labels of “amateur” or “home-made” content is often given to revenge porn on Pornhub, said Kate Isaacs, from the #NotYourPorn campaign, and added that these two were popular search terms for videos that were making the site more valuable for advertisers.

Isaacs has demanded that the site should bring down and delete such videos as soon as they come to know that such videos are revenge porn as well as to ensure that they are not uploaded once again after they are deleted.
