Facebook is planning to come up with a new tool that could help tell the users the exact time that one is spending on the largest social media platform and its associated platform Instagram, even though use4rs might already have some idea of he time spent by them on these two platforms. This new tool is especially for those curious users who wants to know the exact time they expend socializing on the online platforms
This new Facebook features is being called “Your Time on Facebook” would allow a member or a user to know the exact time that they spend liking posts, watching videos, and debating politics on the platforms. The company said that it is slowly adding the feature to most user’s options and a complete rollout of the feature is expected to get completed in the next couple of weeks.
“We want the time people spend on Facebook and Instagram to be intentional, positive and inspiring,” the company said in a blog post announcing the features. “Our hope is that these tools give people more control over the time they spend on our platforms and also foster conversations between parents and teens about the online habits that are right for them.”
Apparently, only those users accessing Facebook on their smartphones would be the ones who would be able to take advantage of this tool and is apparently does not appear to be available for users accessing Facebook or Instagram on their desktops or their laptop computers.
The largest social media platform is also set to offer tools that would allow users to curb the amount of time they spend on the platform if one finds that he or she is using up much of their spare time surfing on the platforms. This would include a system of alerts that lets a user get an alert when he or she spends more than a preset amount of time on either pf the platforms and also allow daily reminders of how much time the user had spent on browsing the day earlier.
According to the communication from Facebook, a user can get access to the feature by first going to the settings page on either app. In the case of Instagram users, they would need to tap on the “Your Activity” icon while Facebook users will require to tap on the icon called “Your Time on Facebook.” This would lead to the appearance of a dashboard that displays the average time spent on the device which will appear on the top of the dashboard. To see the total time for that day, users need to tap on any bar.
The system is not yet perfect. The app is able to only track time spent on a particular device which means a\that if a user uses multiple devices a day for accessing the social media platforms, it would be difficult to track the total time spent on the platforms.
