Competition makes us consumers kings. Is Tesla feeling the heat?
As per Rupert Stadler, Audi’s Chief Executive, the car manufacturer is ramping up its efforts for the electric car market and is set to launch three models by 2020.
Stadler has told Reuters than its renewed push is a direct result of the diesel emission scandal that VW is embroiled in.
Without spilling the beans on the upcoming models, Stadler mentioned that there would be subcompact model among them. It is very likely that Audi will drop older models to make room for the newer ones.
Audi’s aggressive push on electric autonomous cars is likely to some of the spotlight off Tesla’s future ambitions including autonomous trucks and busses.
“”This is about a robot car that may not even need a steering wheel or pedals, so it’s ideal for urban traffic,” said Stadler.
Although Audi has tentative plans for fuel cell models, their viability will come into play only when there are enough charging stations. Hopefully this will be a reality by 2020.
