On Wednesday, Taiwanese electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn stated, it will partner with U.S. firm Medtronic Plc to manufacture ventilators to help patients afflicted by the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak.
Formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, Foxconn is best known for assembling Apple’s iPhones at factories in China.
Foxconn’s statement, released through the company’s founder Terry Gou’s office, says it is currently collaborating with Medtronic to design and develop ventilators; technical and medical personnel from both companies are working closely on this project.
Both companies are aiming to speed production time so that deliveries can start as soon as possible.
In a statement to CNBC, Omar Ishrak, Medtronic’s Chief Executive Officer said, Foxconn’s Wisconsin plant will manufacture the ventilators.
