In total Mobileye’s autonomous driving tech will be deployed in more than 2 million vehicles.
Brian Krzanich, Intel’s CEO stated 2 million vehicles comprising those from the stable of Volkswagen AG, BMW and Nissan Motor Co Ltd, would be using Mobileye’s autonomous vehicle technology to crowd source data for building maps that enable autonomous driving.
Intel acquired Israeli-based Mobileye in 2017 to compete with peers, including Nvidia Corp and Qualcomm Inc, to tap the burgeoning market for autonomous vehicles.
The chip making giant also stated it will tie up with SAIC Motor Corp Ltd to develop cars in China.
With regard to the vulnerabilities discovered by computer security researchers which can potentially compromise customer data to hackers, Krzanich stated Intel had not received any information, so far on customer data being leaked because of this issue.
The vulnerability allows hackers to potentially steal sensitive data from virtually any modern device , including, phones, tablets, laptops, desktops and other devices.
The two security flaws discovered by researchers are vulnerable to attack on devices containing chips from ARM Holdings, Intel and Advanced Micro Devices Inc.
