UK customers aren’t so lucky. They will have to contact the retailer from whom they bought the phone. The Royal Mail had banned the parceling of the device entirely.
When returning your Galaxy Note 7 in a store make sure to ask for Samsung’s fire-proof box to pack it in. U.S. couriers, including UPS and FedEx have disclosed that they will not ship the phone unless it is packed in Samsung’s special fireproof box.
Like a Russian doll, Samsung’s fireproof box comprises of several boxes stacked one inside the other with the outmost box designed to keep potential fires at bay.
Although it could be a bit of a hassle for you to wait for the fireproof boxes to arrive, the step is an improvements from the couriers’ previous stance wherein they had refused to ship the smartphones altogether.
Samsung’s customers in the UK aren’t so lucky: the Royal Mail has banned parceling the device entirely. Instead they have urged owners to get in touch with the retailers from whom they had bought the phone in the first place.
Furthermore, be expected to wait a while before the Note 7 gets to your phone carrier since, airliners have frowned on them being on planes. The Department of Transportation has a rule that prohibits recalled products housing lithium-ion batteries to be airborne. However, the devices are eligible for ground shipping.
Although Samsung’s earnings have been hit by its fire-prone smartphone, the dip isn’t a crater since the bulk of its earnings come from the manufacture of chips. The South Korean giant has adjusted its profit guidelines to $2.34 billion for the current quarter.
As per analysts, Samsung is likely to spend nearly $1 billion for the insulated recalls. This loss however is likely to be offset by its chip and display business.
Nevertheless, the future for the line of extra-large smartphones has contracted.
