According to a report by CCS Insight, Apple’s potential entry into the smart ring market would put it in direct competition with Samsung, which recently launched its Galaxy Ring. Expanding Health Focus

“Health has become a fundamental pillar for Apple. In fact, I would go so far as to say, at the point that Tim Cook decides to relinquish control and he retires … I would like to think that one of his major legacies from Apple would be around personal health,” said Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight.

“Given how deeply and personally invested Tim Cook is in health, I think that a ring is a very complimentary extension to Apple,” Wood explained, adding that a ring would likely fit well with Apple’s existing health features in the Watch and AirPods.

Samsung offers its Galaxy Ring in multiple sizes and colours, providing customers with a sample size kit before purchasing. With Apple Stores located across major cities globally, the company is well-positioned to handle the complexities of selling smart rings, particularly when it comes to ensuring customers find the perfect fit.
“I also think that their retail footprint is ideally suited to it as well because rings are complex products to get to market,” Wood noted.
Beyond functionality, design plays a crucial role in consumer electronics, especially wearables like rings, which double as fashion accessories. Apple has long been recognized for its sleek and stylish designs, and a smart ring could become a sought-after status symbol, similar to other Apple products.
“Apple is a brand that has a certain amount of kudos in terms of being a product that people are proud to have. And I think a beautifully designed ring from Apple could be one of those things that’s almost a sort of status symbol,” Wood said.

The competition between Apple and Samsung varies across different regions. In the U.S. and Europe, Apple has traditionally held a strong market share in the premium device segment, with its loyal customer base often willing to pay a premium for new technology.
