Israeli chip manufacturer Tower Semiconductor halts production following cyber attack

On Sunday, Israeli chip manufacturer Tower Semiconductor said, some of its systems have been hit by a cyber attack as a result of which it has placed on hold some of its manufacturing operations.

“Tower has notified relevant authorities, and is working closely with law enforcement organizations and with a leading team of worldwide experts, coordinated with its insurance providers, in order to recover the impacted systems as soon as possible,” said the company in a statement.

It went on to add, “The company has implemented specific measures to prevent the expansion of this event. At this point there is no assessment as to the actual effect on the company”.

Tower Semiconductor did not provide any further details on the nature of the attack.

The company specializes in producing analogue chips that are typically used in automotive, mobile, infrastructure, medical and aerospace and defense markets.
