According to a report from the Telegraph, U.S. electric carmaker Tesla Inc has applied for a license to supply electricity in the United Kingdom.
The report citing a company source states, the purpose of the license could be to introduce the company’s Autobidder platform. Tesla’s application did not shed light on why it applied for the license, said the report.
Autobidder is a platform for automated energy trading and is currently being operated at Tesla’s Hornsdale Power Reserve in South Australia.
According to industry sources, having built a significant battery business in recent years Tesla is most likely preparing to enter the British market with its technology.
Tesla did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
