On Tuesday, a spokeswoman from South Korean panel maker Samsung Display said, it has decided to stop the production for all of its of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels in South Korea and China by the end of 2020.
In October, Samsung Display, a unit of Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, had said it would suspend one of its two LCD production lines at home midst falling demand for LCD panels and because of a supply glut.
“We will supply ordered LCDs to our customers by the end of this year without any issues,” said Samsung Display in a statement.
Samsung Display runs two LCD production lines at its factories in South Korea and two LCD-only factories in China.
Samsung has yet to decide on the future of its plants in China, said the company’s spokeswoman.
Incidentally, earlier this year, rival LG Display Co Ltd had also said, it would halt domestic production of LCD TV panels by the end of 2020.
