Spotify, Apple’s rival, has 100 million subscribers.
Apple Inc has stated, its online music streaming service has garnered more than 60 million subscribers. Industry leader, Spotify Technology SA, has 100 million premium subscribers.
The disclosure made by Apple’s senior vice president of services, Eddy Cue, was confirmed by Apple’s spokesman. Since May 2018, Apple had not disclosed the number of subscribers to its online music streaming service.
Incidentally, the 60 million figure includes Apple customers who are on a free trial of Apple Music.
In contrast, in April 2019, Spotify had reported that it has 100 million “premium” subscribers.
Please note, Spotify’s definition of premium subscribers includes those on free trials of its paid service so long as the user has entered a payment method such as a credit card.
If we were to include listeners to its ad-supported service, Spotify has 217 million users.
Apple and Spotify are locked in an antitrust dispute after Spotify filed a complaint with European regulators in March 2019.
