Amazon.com’s alleged data collection through its smart speakers of children is in violation of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
In a potentially significant development, 4 senators from the United States have urged the Federal Trade Commission to investigate Amazon.com’s smart speaker which target children.
Senators Richard Blumenthal, Edward J. Markey, Josh Hawley and Dick Durbin have asked Federal Trade Commission to probe Amazon.com following the findings of an advocacy group which show that the online retailer has captured data revolving around children who used Amazon’s smart speaker in alleged violation of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
