U.S. customers who have pre-ordered the phone will get a reimbursement and their order will be cancelled if Samsung does not ship the device by May 31, 2019.
On Tuesday, Samsung Electronics stated it cannot yet confirm the date of shipping for its Galaxy Fold smartphone and apologized to its customers who have made pre-orders.
Samsung Electronics, the world’s biggest smartphone maker chose to postpone the global launch of the splashy $1,980 Galaxy Fold after reviewers discovered issues with its display.
“If we do not hear from you and we have not shipped by May 31st, your order will be canceled automatically,” said Samsung Electronics’ U.S. subsidiary to its U.S. pre-order customers; Samsung’s spokeswoman also confirmed the same.
According to U.S. regulations, in the event Samsung was not able to ship its U.S. pre-orders by May 31, it is required to notify customers and cancel the pre-orders.
Although cancelling its U.S. pre-orders do not damage Samsung’s balance sheet, the postponement does however damage its reputation and its efforts to portray itself as an innovative first-mover, opine analysts.
Samsung aims to produce at least 1 million Galaxy Fold handsets in the first year. Earlier it closed the pre-orders for the phone sighting “high demand”.
