Toyota-backed Hino Motors enters into a strategic tie up with VW’s truck & bus unit

The forward looking deal targets the hybrid and self-driving car market.

On Thursday, Japanese truck maker Hino Motors Ltd stated it has formed a strategic tie-up with Volkswagen Truck & Bus GmbH.

Toyota Motor Corp holds a majority stake in Hino Motors Ltd.

The tie-up will enable the Hino Motors to expand in areas such as hybrid engines, self-driving and connectivity.

The move comes in the wake of Volkswagen AG aiming to list its buses and trucks division in the first quarter of 2019, said two sources with knowledge of the matter, with the German automaker aiming at a broader structural overall to boost its efficiency.
