Google joins Facebook in banning cryptocurrency related ad contents on its network

This policy will be effective from July 1, 2018.

On Wednesday, Alphabet Inc’s Google stated starting from June it will ban advertisements for cryptocurrencies and related content including binary options, and financial services that aid betting.

In a separate blog post, Google said in 2017 it had taken down 3.2 billion ads, up by nearly 100% from its 2016 figure, that violated its advertising policies.

“Improving the ads experience across the web, whether that’s removing harmful ads or intrusive ads, will continue to be a top priority for us,” said Scott Spencer, director of sustainable ads.

In January 2018, Facebook Inc had also stated it will ban ads that promote financial products and services linked to cryptocurrencies and initial coin offerings (ICO). This policy is being implemented across its platforms, including Audience Network, Instagram and Facebook.
