OLED displays are set to gain market share with Japan Display preparing to mass produce them from 2019.
On Wednesday, shares of Japan Display Inc have jumped by 24% after Japan’s Nikkei business daily reported that the company had developed a way to mass-produce lower-cost organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screens and which it would start producing as in 2019.
The business daily reported that Japan Display had started approaching dozens of potential investors, including Sony Corp and Canon Inc, to raise $888 million (100 billion yen) for mass production.
In a statement, Japan Display stated the reported details were not something it had announced but that its group firm JOLED was considering ways to utilize its domestic factory for mass production of OLED panels.
