Known as Bell, to its customers, the company stated the hack isn’t linked to the WannaCry attack. Financial information, including login credentials, weren’t accessed by the hackers.
Hackers have managed to breach and access the customer information of 1.9 million customers, including names, e-mail addresses and active phone numbers, of Canada’s largest telecom company BCE Inc.
The company took pains to point out that the breach was not related to the global WannaCry cyberattack.
Known as Bell, to customers, the Canadian company disclosed there was no indication that any financial, password or other sensitive personal information was accessed.
It has informed Canada’s cyber crime unit as well as the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
The WannaCry “ransomware” worm has managed to infect 300,000 machines across 150 countries, making it the fastest-spreading online extortion campaign in history.
