A few of LG’s about to be launched models have even LTE in the smart watches. NFC capability is the norm for Android Wear 2.0
While wearables have their charm it hasn’t really translated in improved sales. With the release of Android Wear 2.0, Google is aiming to change that. One of the key pillars of Android Wear 2.0 is Android Pay.
In a strategic probably intentional leak, Google has released some screenshots on the Play Store which show how the platform will look and work.
Android Pay will only work with supported retailers. All you have to do is hold your NFC-equipped Android Wear watch next to an Android Pay compatible terminal and voila that it. Once the transfer is done, the terminal will detail the transaction in a list. You can also scroll to see your recent history of transactions.
Apart from the insanely high cool factor, the ability to pay like a boss from your wrist, without having to fish out your smartphone, could become the norm, if Google has its way. This is already available in Samsung Gear S3 Watches and in the Apple Watch.
For Android users the only catch is that your smartwatch will have to have an NFC chip. No current models do.
However, LG and Google are set to remedy that situation: both companies are set to launch two models both of which will be Android Wear 2.0 compatible. Some watches have reportedly even LTE built in.
Here’s hoping that other manufacturers adopt the platform for its grand success.
