Next week onwards, Instagram will enable features which allow you to buy the products you see on its platform.
Facebook owned Instagram has stated it will start testing a new feature from next week through which users will be able to purchase products from photos they like on its platform.
In a blog post, Instagram wrote, retailers will be allowed to showcase 5 products. Clicking them will provide users with product details. Each product will also feature a “shop now” link, which will direct users to the retailer’s website.
The new features are targeted at expanding its user base which is currently 500 million and counting. Earlier users would have had to exit the app to research the product in the photo in order to buy it.
So as make this effort a success, Instagram has signed up with almost 20 retailers in the U.S., which includes, Kate Spade an apparel retailer, JackThreads, a men’s wear e-commerce company and Warby Parker, an eye-wear manufacturer.
Next week onwards, the new features will be introduced to select users of iOS-based devices in the United States.
