Google’s acquisition of Urban Engines could see improvement in Google Maps

In the future, Google Maps could suggest better routes for traffic management.

With Google interested in making its maps more efficient, it was only natural that it acquired Urban Engines, a company which specializes in analyzing traffic data from cities.

“Location analytics is an important focus for both Urban Engines and Google, and we’re excited to combine forces to help organizations better understand how the world moves,” reads a blog post from Urban Engines.

Although it is a little early to say how much of an impact this acquisition will have on Google Maps, but basing ourselves on Google’s past, it wouldn’t be imprudent to bet that in the near future Google Maps will be much better at suggesting routes to avoid traffic jams.
