While both of Apple’s watches will run watchOS 3, the older one can be upgraded to have the same dual-core CPU as the latest Apple Watch Series 2. The most significant difference between the two is the waterproofing capability of the Series 2.

Significantly, for old Apple watch consumers, they will also receive an upgrade to a dual core processor, just like the one which runs Apple Watch Series 2.
