Porsche’s Model E to be unveiled in 2019

Porsche is ramping up production at its Zuffenhausen plant by increasing its headcount.

When Porsche first unveiled its Model E, E for electric, last December, it launched it as a competition to Tesla’s Model S.

It had then said that 1,000 jobs will be created to being the concept vehicle to life. It has now disclosed that 400 more jobs will be created so that the Model E sees the light of day, as its parent, Volkswagen chugs steadily along despite its diesel emission cheating scandal.

This development marks a significant change in the company’s erstwhile philosophy  which was earlier a combustion engine-only company.

“You either take part in the digital change or you lose,” said Uwe Hueck, Porsche’s labor boss at a briefing.

In addition to the 1,400, 350 more digital experts will be required to set up the unit and develop the concept while uncovering new areas for growth.

Porsche hopes to start production from its Zuffenhausen plant sometime in 2019. Although the company has not disclosed production targets yet, Hueck however informed that they would need to sell at least 10,000 units in a year so as to remain in the black.
