Its aggressive approach towards purging extremist’s tweets on its network is a welcome move.
In the last few years, the speed at which Twitter responds to online extremism has changed dramatically. According to observers at the Counter Extremism Project the social network acted with great speed to remove the tweets and accounts of pro-extremists, in the wake of the terrorist truck attack in Nice, France on July 14.
According to the Counter Extremism Project, Twitter moved with a “swiftness we have not seen before”. Although Twitter has hasn’t commented on its specific actions, its actions however are loud and clear, the company is definitely serious on eliminating terror related personnel on its network.
Twitter is not the only tech company that has adopted an active approach vis-à-vis terrorism. Google and Facebook are also working with the U.S. Government to stifle the efforts of extremists online.
The speed with which Twitter has acted this time to purge extremists and their supporter’s tweets on its network, is a welcome move and is probably indicative of its future stance against this menace.
