Nikola Motors offers 2,000HP hybrid truck for $1,500, final retail price $375,000.
Nikola Motor Company, a new entrant to the electric vehicle industry, is unabashedly riding in the wake of Tesla Motors. Although the source of inspiration of the company’s name may be one – Nicolas Tesla, both companies have taken different routes in the EV industry. Nicola Motor Company plans on manufacturing a 2,000 horsepower semi-truck and a four-seater, open-frame 4×4.
It has named its 2,000 horsepower semi-truck as Nikola One. Although it’s not the first electric truck to hit the roads, its claim to fame is its 800-1200 mileage from a single charge of its 320KWh battery. This feat of engineering is thanks to its “sophisticated, hi-tech natural gas turbine” which charges the batteries when the truck is on the move.
In order to build a support network for its hybrid trucks, Nikola plans on building its own network of 50 CNG stations across the country.
Its smaller size cousin named as the Nikola Zero, is a 520 horsepower 4×4 vehicle that can give you 150-150 miles on a single charge from its 50KWh battery.
Before you get your hopes high and want to see on right now, please note that as yet the vehicles are in the drawing board stage. The company has made 3D models and has yet to build concepts.
However, the company is currently open to pre-orders for both of its models for a surprisingly low cost of $1,500 and $750, respectively. That’s right read it again. Eventually their retail price tags are likely to cost you $375,000 for the monster 2,000 horsepower truck and $42,000 for the 4×4.
If the number of pre-orders were to drive up enough capital so as to make a real-world equivalent of the 3D rendered models, the company’s prolific namesake would not end up as vaporware.
