Bang and Olufsen’s BeoPlay A1: A small wireless portable speaker which packs a punch

The BeoPlay A1 – when you cannot just compromise on audio quality and looks.

Danish electronic giant, Bang and Olufsen, is commonly associated with high-end audio gear, and with the launch of its BeoPlay A1, its smallest portable speaker, do expect a world class audiophile-grade device.

The portable Bluetooth-enabled wireless speaker, is small enough to fit in a backpack and includes a built-in microphone, so that you could handle calls, should the need to do so ever arises. Most importantly, the BeoPlay A1 touts a battery life of a full 24 hours, which significantly enhances the glow of its attractiveness.

Sporting an aluminum top with a speaking grill, the BeoPlay A1 is covered in soft-rubber and comes with a leather cord so that you can hang the speaker on a hook or peg. A USB-C port is available for charging, with a full charge taking nearly 3 hours.

Although a BeoPlay app is available for Android and iOS, the device connects seamlessly to most smartphones and notebooks without resorting to any extra downloads.

As expected the audiophile grade devices provides excellent harmonics: even at high volume levels, the sound is undistorted. The speaker provides a full deep base for low frequency signals and handles high frequency notes with as much grace, while maintaining the clarity in 360 degrees.

Available in two colours, moss green and natural (gray/ silver), if you are looking to snag one of these high end audio babies, it will set you back by $249 (£199).

Its price point is amazing, given that it’s from the stables of Bang and Olufsen: it’s just $20 more than the Beats’ Pill+ while $50 less than UE’s Megaboom. For me personally, the alternatives, going by pure sound value, are not competition worthy.

Obviously, there are more economical alternatives, but if you want a portable, audiophile grade, wireless, USB-C speaker with excellent harmonics and has the looks which can start a conversation, look no further than the BeoPlay A1.
