It is a wee bit funny, but it’s better to play safe than sorry. There is a logical explanation for the site’s behaviour.

In a surprising turn of events, a Reddit user discovered, much to his surprise, that Google’s Safe Browsing Site Status checker, had listed Google.com, as a partially dangerous site.

Google’s Safe Browsing Site Status checker has warned that “some pages on this website redirect visitors to dangerous [ones] that install malware on visitors’ computers.”

At the bottom of Google’s Safety Checker site, it says, “Don’t panic. Users sometimes post bad content on websites that are normally safe. Safe Browsing will update the safety status once the webmaster has cleaned up the bad content.”

This weirdly strange and funny situation, could potentially allow a malware to steal your financial and personal info, which certainly suddenly kills the fun element.

The Washington Post has taken the pains to explain that there is a perfectly reasonable and more importantly, logical, explanation for this: some people may have uploaded malicious content in Google’s services, and the checker is unable to single it out.

Of note is the fact that Google’s Safe Browsing checker is, as yet, unable to distinguish between good content and malicious ones especially for sites with heavy user activity such as Tumblr. Google’s Safe Browsing checker sees Tumblr as a partially dangerous site.

This only goes to demonstrate that Google’s tool is still work-in-progress and is far from perfect. Nevertheless, it’s best you exercise caution.
