Tim Westergren is back as Pandora’s CEO

With Tim back, the decision to sell or to retain full ownership of the company, now rests only with him, its founder.

Pandora’s on-demand listening service isn’t the only thing that is prone to change. The company that has pioneered internet radio has now, all of a sudden, has appointed its founder, Tim Westergren, as its CEO. Brian McAndrews, the outgoing CEO, will be leaving the company immediately.

The change is part of a broader change in management. However what prompted this change isn’t clear from its official statements. Pandora has so far stated that the latest moves are to “accelerate the company’s growth,” while noting that that Westergren has been deeply involved with the company since its founding days.

With Pandora looking to expand its horizons and go beyond just internet radio and with its acquisition of Rdio, the change in management has come at the nick of time. The New York Times, had reported that the company is looking to sell itself in the near future.

This move come on the back of below par results with active listening dropping year by year. With Westergren back in the driver’s seat, the decision to sell or not, should be only his, being the founder. Plus, he now wwill not have to worry that some someone is sullying his vision for online music.
