It pairs food and can tell what wine you are pouring.
Most wine aficionados are well versed between the different kinds of wines. For the tech minded ‘wanna be’ wine lovers who don’t want to take the trouble of knowing their wines, Kuvée has got a solution that purports to take the frustration of finding new wine.
The Kuvée bottle system has two parts to it. The device is around the size of a 750ml bottle and features a colour LED touchscreen, and the accompanying bottle comes with its own docking station. In fact, the bottle is more like an “smart sleeve” for the device’s aluminium refill canisters. All you have got to do is unscrew the cap from the refill, slide the bottle over and join the two together.
The refill canister is airtight thanks to a proprietary mechanism and can keep a wine fresh for nearly a month. Thanks to this, you can crack open multiple bottle without having to worry about finishing it before the wine turns.
As for Kuvée’s digital device, when you insert the canister containing the wine, the front touchscreen not only recognizes what is being poured in but also displays pertinent information about it. This automatic feature can be scrolled for taste profiles, food pairing options and the vintner.
All of this information is not stored locally, it is pulled from Kuvée’s servers through an on-board WiFi connection. As per Vijay Manwani, Kuvée’s co-founder, that the system will feature a recommendation engine a la Netflix, which will recommend and suggest similar wines that you may enjoy based on your drinking habits. If you happen to find what you are looking for, you can even order it from the bottle interface, provided you have initially setup an account with them.
Set to launch in October, Kuvée’s smart bottles will be available, to begin with, only in Massachusetts and California. It will set you back by $200 for the bottle, unless you decide to pre-order it for $180, and $15 to $50 for the refills.
