Chevy’s ZH2 features hydrogen fuel cells

Although civilians can buy it, Chevy is eyeing the military with the Zh2.

While the recent launch of automobiles have focused on regular folks, Chevy’s latest model is targeted at not only eco-conscious civilians but the military as well.

Chevy’s Colorado ZH2, is in fact an experimental truck designed to test the feasibility of fuel cells in a military settings. In fact, the ZH2 is so quiet, it can be even suited for special ops where a convention gas motor powered equivalent will blow its cover.

Not only is driving it a breeze, you can also use its modular cells to power external devices with upto 25kW of continuous electricity. For example, a squad could use the ZH2’s power cells to run equipment in the middle of nowhere.

ZH2 also benefits from the inherent advantage of hydrogen which translates into high torque and high fuel efficiency. Furthermore, in case a fuel cells needs fixing, in can be swapped in the field.

Next year, the U.S. Army plans to test the ZH2 in “extreme field conditions”. Although there is no guarantee that the truck will enter service, given its advantages, it could be a close call.
