On Monday, electric vehicle battery maker CATL stated, it has signed a battery supply agreement with U.S. electric vehicle giant Tesla.
In a stock exchange filing, CATL disclosed, Tesla will determine the volume of battery purchases that it requires based on its needs, between July 2020 and June 2022.
The agreement does not impose restrictions on Tesla’s purchase volume.
Last week, during an earnings call, Tesla, which has a long-standing battery supply agreement with Panasonic Corp, said its agreement with CATL and LG Chem were of a smaller scale.
Tesla is building Model 3 vehicles at its $2 billion Shanghai plant from which deliveries have already begun. Earlier Tesla had mentioned that it would diversify battery supplies for the plant.
